Not long ago, I believed that the future of large language models (LLMs) would be in the hands of large software companies. Companies like Microsoft (OpenAI), Google, and Anthropic had deep pockets and were in pole position. They could afford to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into crafting and upgrading LLMs. The idea of open source AI being a rival seemed far-fetched.
